Dear Christian parent, there’s a reason God gave you to your child and gave your child to you.

Dear Christian parent, there’s a reason God gave you to your child and gave your child to you.

If you ever find yourself in a position where you doubt your ability to be the right kind of parent for your child, let this be your comfort. God has given you all you need to be the right parent for your child.

1. Parent with Unconditional Love. Third, help your child know Jesus by demonstrating unconditional love as a parent. One of the ways you can do this is by asking your child after disciplining them “do Mom & Dad love you more when you’re good or when you’re bad?” Over time, they should learn to answer “you love me the same”, and your attitude towards your child should confirm that fact.

2.Read a Psalm or two before going to sleep at night. If you’re anything like me, I don’t do well when I try to read anything “heavy-duty” at night. I sometimes try, but find myself reading the same paragraph over and over. But reading a little in the Psalms will help us go to sleep with God on our hearts and minds. “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches” (Ps. 63.6).

3. Read a chapter of Proverbs a day. There are 31 chapters. So making it a daily habit will take you through the book of wisdom every month. Try reading it over breakfast with your children or during your lunch hour at home or at work.

4.Talk About How Sin Affects Relationships.

Fourth, as parents, we can demonstrate how a relationship with God works by talking about how sin affects our relationships. Whenever your child disobeys you or lies to you, and you talk to them about it, talk about how it affects your relationship with them. Open up about how, because of the sin, it makes it harder to trust that they are going to do the right thing or tell the truth next time. And while God’s love is unconditional, sin can put a strain on our relationship with Him too.

5.Remember…Godly Kids are not Perfect Kids .It’s not helpful to tell your kids with an angry tone. You don’t teach grace and truth when you use derogatory labels in a cruel or hateful way.

6. Our parenting is stewardship. God gives our children to us as caretakers, to care for, nurture, raise, shepherd, on behalf of their Heavenly Father. We are merely stewards of this divine responsibility, and we must see ourselves in that light.
